Profiles

You can customize the HHKB Studio key layout in accordance with your intended use and save up to four key layouts to number keys [1] to [4] as layout profiles.

Creating your own profiles for each OS or software program and saving them to the keyboard allows you to use the keyboard in various scenarios simply by switching profiles with shortcuts.

Use Keymap Tool to customize the key layout and create your own profiles.

HINT
  • HHKB Studio has four layers for each profile. Associating each [Fn] (Fn1) to [Fn3] keys to each layer enables you to assign several operations to a single physical key. For details, refer to Fn (Function) Key and Layer Types.

How to switch between profiles

Follow the steps below to switch the profiles to be used.

  1. Hold down the [Fn] key and press the [C] key.

    Profile Switching Mode

    The keyboard enters the profile switching mode and the LED indicator light corresponding to the current profile number (Profile1 to Profile4) blinks in white.

    For example, when Profile1 is used, the leftmost LED indicator light blinks as shown in the figure above.

    HINT
    • To exit the profile switching mode, press the [Fn] + [X] keys.

  2. Press any of the [1] to [4] number keys of the profile number you want to use.

    Switching between Profiles

    The LED indicator light corresponding to the number of the profile (Profile1 to Profile4) that is switched to lights up in white.

    For example, when the [2] key (Profile2) is pressed, the second LED indicator light from the left lights up as shown above.

    The LED indicator light will turn off after the profile is switched.

HINT
  • When the keyboard is turned on, the last profile used will be applied automatically.

How to check the profile in use

To check the number of the profile in use, press the [Fn] + [V] keys.

The LED indicator status will change in the order shown below. Refer to "2" in the following table to check the status of the LED indicators that light up second.

Indicates that the keyboard is turned on.

Checking the Profile in Use

The light corresponding to the number of the profile that has been applied lights up once in white

Indicates the profile that has been applied.

The light corresponding to the number of the profile (Profile1 to Profile4) lights up once in white.

(The figure shows an example of the LED indicator when Profile1 has been applied)

Bluetooth connection:

Bluetooth Connection

The light corresponding to the device to be connected lights up once in blue

USB connection:

USB Connection

All four lights light up once in blue

Indicates the connection status of the keyboard.

  • Bluetooth connection

    The light corresponding to the number key (1 to 4) to which the pairing information for the connected device is assigned lights up once in blue.

    (The figure shows an example of the LED indicator when the keyboard is connected via Bluetooth to the device assigned to the number [2] key)

  • USB connection

    All four lights light up once in blue.

Profile settings as factory default

A profile for each OS is saved as default. The settings for each profile are as follows:

Profile1

The profile for Windows is configured. This profile is used to connect Windows/Android devices.

The [Windows] and other keys are assigned to the special keys as shown below.

Special Key Assignment (Windows)

Profile1 is applied automatically when the keyboard is connected for the first time.

Profile2

The profile for macOS is configured. This profile is used to connect macOS/iOS/iPad OS devices.

The [Command] and other keys are assigned to the special keys as shown below.

Profile3 to Profile4

The profile corresponding to Profile1 is configured.

You can create a new profile by changing the key assignment with Keymap Tool.
